Share Your Message with Unicorn’s Top Philanthropists

The Unicorn Children’s Foundation Orient Express Gala on March 5, 2011 at the Mar-a-Lago Club, Palm Beach is swiftly approaching!  You can be a part of this wonderful event by participating in the prestigious Gala Program Book.  Please read the letter below from our Treasurer and Gala Co-chair, Valeria Rosenbloom, to learn how you can participate.

Dear friend,

You are receiving this message because you have at one point in time expressed an interest in becoming involved with or donating to Unicorn Children’s Foundation.  Since it’s inception in 1994, Unicorn Children’s Foundation key objective was to provide hope and answers for the families of children affected by a developmental, communication, or learning disorder by promoting awareness, early identification and diagnosis, and improving communication across therapeutic and research disciplines.  The generous support of our donors has made it possible for us to improve the quality of life for children affected by these disorders but much work remains to be done.

We are currently in the process of preparing our Annual Program Book that will be distributed to a large cross-section of community leaders, business professionals and philanthropists who will be in attendance at our Palm Beach Gala,  An Evening Aboard the Orient Express, on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the exclusive Mar-a-Lago Club, in Palm Beach, Florida. I am offering you an excellent opportunity to share your message with this esteemed group and help make a difference in the lives of children with developmental and learning differences.

Everyone can participate in this commemorative book…from a full-page ad to your name listed on our supporters page with a minimum $25 donation. The space is yours, the choices are endless: a business ad, a family photograph, a wedding photo, your photo from a past Unicorn event, your children or grandchildren, a memoriam, a message of hope, or to honor a friend or one of our incredible event chairs, award recipients and honorees with a tribute page.

  • Unicorn’s 2010-2011 Shining Star Award recipient – Smart for Life & UnderwayRichard Kayne, Dr. Sasson and Renata Moulavi
  • Unicorn’s 2010-2011 Founders Award recipients – Karen & Dan Swanson
  • Unicorn’s 2010-2011 Grand Ambassadors – Michelle & Ron Yellin
  • Unicorn’s Palm Beach Gala Grand Dame – Jeannette Stark
  • Honorees of the Palm Beach Gala– Emily Damiano, Yvonne & Charles ELdredge, Madeline & Herbert Hillsberg and Patricia Riley from Clientele.
  • Co-Chairs of the Palm Beach Gala – Lori & Rafael Cabrera, Elisabeth Dalfen, Eric Dorsky, Juliette Ezagui, Marleen Forkas,  Joanne Gabay, Genevieve Murphy, Valeria Rosenbloom,  Jeannette Stark, Michelle Yellin,
  • Any one of the members of our Board of Directors

All program book proceeds will strengthen our growing education, awareness, and research efforts benefiting children and young adults. Follow the link to view the form for advertising details: http://www.unicornchildrensfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2011-Ad-Form1.pdf.  The deadline to place your ad in this superb commemorative book is December 30, 2010, but we hope to hear from you much earlier so as to reserve your prominent placement in the publication.

We trust that you understand the importance of investing in our youth and we ask that you consider a donation to Unicorn Children’s Foundation so that we can continue to fund necessary education, awareness, and research programs that will improve the outcome for these children and reduce the expense of long-term care for these children provided by the State and taxpayers.

Sincerely,

Valeria Rosenbloom

The Annual Pledging & Pinning Lucheon was a Wonderful Success!

Unicorn Children’s Foundation hosted it’s Annual Pledging and Pinning Luncheon at Café Boulud of the Brazilian Court on December 8, 2010.  The event was magical and uplifting as supporters came together to pledge their support of the Palm Beach Gala, An Evening Aboard the Orient Express, that will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the exclusive Mar-a-Lago Club.

Sharon Alexander, Executive Director, announced Unicorn Children’s Foundation newest program, creation of a highly anticipated, new South Florida school targeting adolescents and young adults with learning differences (more formal announcements to follow).  Our wonderful family reached deep and gave so generously of themselves to help make this dream a reality.

Supporters who donated $10,000 or more during the past fiscal year were inducted into Unicorn Children’s Foundation Visionary Society.  These members were presented with a unicorn pin designed exclusively for Unicorn Children’s Foundation by Kaufmann de Suisse.

Dylan Krost, a 17 year old who lives with dyslexia, courageously shared his experiences of learning differently and how, with the right support, he is able to overcome his challenges.  His wonderful and touching speech pulled at the heartstrings of all listening.  Nearly $200,000 was raised at the short afternoon affair and the Unicorn Children’s Foundation could not be more excited at the enthusiasm and generosity of our supporters.  We want to thank all that attended to show your ever growing support to our cause and also pay a special thank you to those who could not be present, but still extended their donation.  If you are ever able to attend a Unicorn hosted event, you will understand the joy of giving back to our cause as our supporters will touch your hearts!

Thanksgiving Soup for the Soul

Thanksgiving is a time to bring family together and give thanks for all of our many blessings, but for those who have children with Autism the loud gatherings can become very troublesome for your little one.  To ease into this holiday stress free, we would like to offer some helpful tips to making your child and you comfortable in any setting.

Tip 1: Talk to your guests before the gathering and explain any off-putting behavior or triggers your child might exhibit.

Tip 2: If you are entering into someone’s home ask the host if your child can have a quiet place to venture off that can all his/her own.  Bring or have your child pick out some favorite items that will make them feel comforted in this space.

Tip 3: Be sure to communicate ahead of time with your child the plans that will be taking place and the expectations that come with this gathering.  Make sure to show and remind them of their special place if things get overwhelming.

Tip 4: If you are staying at home for the holiday, prepare food that your child loves and explain all the special foods they will have to choose from.  If you are going to someone else’s home, ask the host if you can brig side dishes that our child enjoys and possibly a favorite dessert.  Food really sets the tone for comfort among all people, so when your child sees items that they love to eat, they will feel more at ease.

Tip 5: If you can, try to keep the day short and sweet.  Too much stimulation can be overwhelming and exhausting and you want your child to enjoy this day and not feel anxious.

With a little planning any large gathering can be one full of enjoyment for the whole family.

From all of us at Unicorn we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
